AIA PHILADELPHIA PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD

Lloyd Hall faces the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park and is built on the site of the former historic Plaisted Hall at Number One Boathouse Row. It houses the most active recreation center in the City of Philadelphia-providing after school programs, and basketball and volleyball leagues for local youth, while also serving the greater Philadelphia region with a juggling club, folk dancing, and as the headquarters for Philadelphia City Rowing (PCR).

A café, information office, and outdoor gathering spaces including plazas and terraces, rentable event spaces, and a roof deck have established Lloyd Hall as a popular meeting and gathering place. The building includes a large multipurpose room/gymnasium with accompanying locker rooms and restrooms, an upper lobby meeting space overlooking the river, and a staff/information office.

In 2016, the Lloyd Hall Advisory Council commissioned A K Architecture to lead community stakeholders in a design charette process to rethink the vision for Lloyd Hall’s future with the goal of optimizing the public’s enjoyment of this well-used modern landmark.
