Rittenhouse Square Townhouse

A K Architecture returned this historical townhouse in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square neighborhood to its original grandeur, converting it from a mixed use street level commercial space with a dentist office and apartments above, to a large private residence with the owner’s violin shop in the street level retail space.

The original center stair was restored and opened to the upper floor spaces with a new skylight bringing diffused day light to penetrate through the heart of the house. In the second floor front area facing Locust Street to the north, a modern kitchen with custom cabinetry, stone counters, and stainless steel accents converses with the original Pennsylvania blue marble fireplaces. Designing an open floor plan for the family living spaces was balanced with creating private sleeping rooms for the owners on the third and fourth story
