Vesper Boat Club
Addition and renovation to a historic building on Philadelphia’s Boathouse Row. This project received the Preservation Alliance’s 2016 Grand Jury Award.
The new construction projects the club’s strong tradition of rowing into the 21st century with equal facilities for men and women.
Like the high-tech design of the modern rowing shells, the addition to the boathouse strives to improve upon an inherently beautiful structure.
New spaces include a skylit entry vestibule/ stair hall, women’s locker rooms and training space, kitchen, office, and riverside deck.
This project is leading to the establishment of a community rowing program pairing Vesper oarsmen with local high school athletes. The final phases of this project, re-installation of a flagpole on the original waterside gable, and installation of the clock on the new waterside gable, were completed in 2014.
